It was classical night on ABC's hit dance-competition show, "Dancing With the Stars." The Monday night telecast challenged the celebrities to step up their games, and it paid off: The judges finally gave out their first perfect score of the season.
Similar to last week, after the individual dances, the couples split off into two teams — Team Paso and Team Tango — to get a second score.
The season's first perfect score came when TV journalist Maria Menounos and her pro partner Derek Hough performed the paso doble and judges were in love with what she turned in. Carrie Ann Inaba joked "that dance sucked!" before chasing it with "You were so on fire!" Their score was 30/30 for a total of 57/60 including the bonus dance.
Here's how the others fared:
Katherine Jenkins and Mark Ballas
The opera singer took over the dance floor with her rumba. The judges thought her performance was elegant. Judge Bruno Tonioli said that Jenkins was the "embodiment of the power of beauty" and joked that her dance could have been raunchier. 27/30, for a total of 54/60 with the bonus dance.
Donald Driver and Peta Murgatroyd
The NFL player took on the Viennese waltz and the athlete scored big points with the live audience, judging by their hoots and hollering. Hard-to-please head judge Len Goodman said that the performance was terrific and praised Driver's footwork. 27/30 for a total of 53/60.
William Levy and Cheryl Burke
The Latin heartthrob also danced the Viennese waltz. Judges thought this was one of his best nights ever. Inaba shrieked, saying, "That is true content! That is true dancing!" 27/30, for a total of 53/60.
Roshon Fegan and Chelsea Hightower
The Disney star danced the Argentine tango (and to a classical spin on Lady Gaga's hit "Bad Romance" at that!) and the judges thought the performance came off a bit wobbly. Goodman told him that he "looked a little bit awkward," but added that it was "clean and competent." 25/30, for a total of 52/60.
Jaleel White and Kym Johnson
The former child star danced the Viennese waltz, and judges weren't too impressed with what he brought to the ballroom. Goodman said his footwork wasn't up to par but that he did enjoy the "fairy" feel to his routine. But that was about it. 24/30 for a total of 51/60.
Melissa Gilbert and Maks Chmerkovskiy
Both partners were plagued by injuries — Chmerkovskiy had a cyst in his foot — but he stepped it up as best he could for their Argentine tango. In spite of working through the pain, judges really weren't all that impressed. Goodman said that their routine wasn't clean, and Inaba said that the dance was "Cirque du Soleil gone terribly wrong." Ouch. 21/30, for a total of 47/60.
Which of the remaining stars are you rooting for on "Dancing With the Stars"? Tell us in the comments!

Today in Retail Business History Commercial Television Was Born ...
Today is a significant date in both business and retail history because on April 30, 1939, U.S. commercial television debuted at the New York World's Fair, with the help of a signal transmission from the top of the Empire State Building.
The value of the birth of commercial television is inestimable to life, to business, and to the retail industry. Without television there wouldn't have been much of a category for Best Buy (BBY) to kill. In a U.S. retail industry without television, there would be no Super Bowl commercials, no effective way for Jim Cramer to rant and scream about retail stocks, and no way to give hourly retail employees a face and a voice by an Undercover Boss. Without commercial television the Home Shopping Network would be the Sears catalogue, and the quality of life would have been diminished without the pocket fishermen, ThighMasters, Bowflex machines, and George Foreman Grills peddled to the masses on infomercials.
Whenever retailers find themselves saying that something is a passing fad - like e-gift cards, mobile shopping apps, Facebook, and Pinterest, for example - it would be a good idea to remember that 1939 world's fair attendees probably thought the same thing about some crazy picture box that needed the world's tallest building to operate. Retailers can either embrace technology or get trampled by it. Either way, today's consumer technology marches quickly on, with or without retailer participation.

Four More Referral Sources to Tap into for Business Growth ...
A week ago today, I outlined a brief description of each of the first four of the eight referral sources.? I encouraged blog readers to spend the past week taking action in developing at least two of those referral sources and promised that this week I would explain the last four referral sources.?
* Remember, the more you learn about each referral source, the more referral sources you will develop; the more referral sources you develop, the more referrals you will get and the more your business will grow!

The Eight Referral Sources: Sources #5 ? #8
- Staff Members
Except for customers, no one understands better than staff members how your products or services perform.? Not just sales and marketing staff?generating sales is what they were hired to do?but part-time or full-time staff members in administration, production, and other functions give your business a boost when they talk with friends, neighbors, associates, and people they meet in their daily lives.? Keep them happy; a disgruntled employee can do your business a lot of harm.Don?t overlook former staff members, either.? Working for your company will always be a part of their history, and often part of their conversation with prospects as well. - People to Whom You?ve Given Referrals
You?re more likely to get a referral from someone to whom you?ve given a referral.? The more you give, the more you?ll get. - Anyone Who Has Given You Referrals
People who give you referrals for business or direct others to you for networking or advice are demonstrating that they think highly of you and what you do.? If they didn?t, they would refer people elsewhere.? Strengthen and nurture these prospective referral sources; don?t take them for granted.? Show your appreciation with personal gestures and by referring prospects to them.? Call on them for further referrals, but don?t abuse their generosity.? Maintain the business standards that earned you their respect. - Other Members of Business Referral Groups
Referral groups are set up by their members mainly to exchange leads and referrals.? A typical weekly meeting of such a group includes time devoted exclusively to networking and referring business.? If you?re a member, this is what you signed up for: ready access to potential new clients.? To encourage communication and limit possible competitive conflicts, business referral groups often restrict membership to one person per profession or specialty.
Between last Monday?s blog and today?s blog, you should now have a good understanding of the eight referral sources and there is no better time than right now to start developing them for more referrals!?
If you accepted last week?s challenge of developing at least two of the first four referral sources, I?d love to hear about which sources you chose to focus on and what your experience was.? Now the question is, which of these next four sources are you going to work on developing next?? Please leave your thoughts in the comments section.

Pacemaker DJ app for BlackBerry PlayBook impressions (video)
Back in 2008, a nifty little box of tricks elbowed its way onto the market -- the Tonium Pacemaker. A gadget about the size of an OG PSP, with a complete DJ set-up hidden inside. It was a brave idea, and one that was fondly received. A few years down the line, mixed with a sprinkling of business politics, and sadly the Pacemaker's time on stage would come to an end. Like all good performances though, the show wasn't completely over. In true musical fashion its back for an encore, reinvented and more importantly -- right now at least -- in our hands. We spent sometime with the reincarnated Pacemaker DJ app, to see what life is like after hardware.
