Not just Italy ? pretty much every 1st world country that?s not in North America does this. Even my doctor says a glass of wine every once in a while is okay ? everything in moderation. The big thing is that everyone is freaking out about anything. Each year the DO NOT HAVE THIS list grows. Now, I?m not saying I agree with drinking alcohol (and I haven?t had a drop since I found out I was pregnant), but people are being OVERLY cautious now. Think about all the things our parents did, and their parents. We turned out okay, didn?t we?
All research on FAS has shown that some babies can have it if there mother had only a few glasses of wine, while some mothers who power-drink can have perfectly healthy babies. The stats on FAS in European countries show that their percentage of FAS births is actually a little lower than the US (which has the highest rate).
