This role is primarily responsible for understanding all macro and micro-economic factors, interpreting the changes and providing insight on how these changes will impact the company. This position acts as a key resource of information and analysis on the external business and economic environment and effectively uses that information to influence the company?s strategy. This role reports directly to the Chief Economist and will provide back up as needed for external speaking engagements, including media and internal to the Board of Directors. As such, this role requires significant public speaking and presentation skills and a demonstrated ability to effectively influence change.
Responsibilities include:
- The position is responsible for monitoring all macro and micro-economic factors, interpreting the changes and understanding how these changes will impact the company.
- Provides macro and micro-market inputs for forecasting processing for housing activity (including housing sales, housing starts and house prices), demographics (including population and household growth, age composition and immigration), overall economic activity ( including GDP and income growth, inflation and interest rates) and mortgage market activity (including mortgage originations, mortgage debt outstanding and the ARM share).
- Expands and improves Fannie Mae?s relationships with constituent group, both internal and external, by sharing useful data and analysis to these groups. Will provide primary back up to the Chief Economist on board and external speaking engagements as needed.
- Evaluates research quality provided by the group and provides information to internal constituents as needed to support their efforts.
- Must engage effectively with internal partners, have strong influencing skills and excellent oral and written communication skills.
Job Requirements
- Years of experience: 10 required.
- Years of managerial experience: 5 required.
- Bachelor?s degree required; Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Business Administration or related fields.
- Master?s degree required; Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Business Administration or Related field or related fields.
- PhD degree preferred; Economics, Statistics, Public Policy or related fields.
- Extensive knowledge of the economy and housing markets. Experience in Mortgage Finance Markets desirable.
- Experience in applying economic trends to business strategy development and execution is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to produce and evaluate economic models and markets and understand relevance to current and future economic trends.
- Significant experience managing a staff of professionals, especially senior level research economists.
- Demonstrated experience in successfully communicating difficult topics with senior leadership, both verbally and in writing. Must possess excellent writing and speaking skills.
- Demonstrated experience with corporate governance.
