If you're not familiar with Slyboots School of Music and Art, you can catch up here. If you
are familiar with the school, then you are aware of just how important the resource is to Buffalo. Coming up in September, Slyboots is hosting a music festival called Slyboots, and while the festival is not in the city, there is a great fundraiser in support of the festival that is being hosted at Merge on Friday, August 31 @ 10pm.?It would be most wise to attend both the Merge fundraiser (Facebook) and the festival at Griffis Sculpture Park?(Facebook). Your support will help to give a boost to the school's innovative programming efforts. "Music, specifically drumming, ?is a therapeutic activity that brings people together from every corner of the world," said?Griffin Brady of Slyboots.?"In a city as diverse as Buffalo, community based organizations like the Slyboots School of Music and Art are essential elements to preserving, appreciating and showcasing our cultural identities, separate and collective. At the Slyboots School we use cultural arts education as a vehicle for positive social change, building a vibrant and loving community through workshops with local artisans from around the world, live music events, music lessons, dance classes and even study abroad opportunities for Buffalo students to travel to West Africa to study drumming, dancing and culture. ?While some of us have been born and raised in WNY, many Buffalonians are coming from places all over the world like Africa, Europe, South America, India etc. ?No matter where we come from, we are proud to call Buffalo home because of the love and support of the arts and knowing that we have something really special right here."
"Locally, their music is being well received. While performing at various events, they often have some of the largest lingering crowds. The music is very lively, and infectious. It is hard not to feel the passion and energy put into every beat of the drum, and song." - Jessica Edwards describing Slyboots musicians - from BRO article
