President in Southland, road closures expected

President Obama?s motorcade was reported traveling through the Westside toward Beverly Hills early Sunday afternoon. The president is scheduled to take part in two star-studded fundraising events downtown Sunday night.

Getting the president downtown to L.A. Live could result in brief closures along the 10 Freeway and streets around L.A. Live and the Nokia Theatre, police said.

Air Force One landed at 1:10 p.m., and Obama transferred to Marine One, the presidential helicopter, according to local wire reports. It landed at 1:35 p.m. at Rancho Park, and then a presidential motorcade headed to a private gathering reported to be at the home of DreamWorks Animation Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg. Former President Clinton also was expected to attend.

Later Sunday, the first event downtown will be a ?30 Days to Victory? concert with Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Katy Perry and Jennifer Hudson. Also on hand will be L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Democratic convention keynoter Julian Castro and actor George Clooney.

Six thousand tickets were sold at the Nokia Theatre starting at $250 each,, although a limited number of $44 tickets were also made available.

A fundraising dinner will follow at WP24 by Wolfgang Puck. There, 150 guests have agreed to pay $25,000 per person, with the money going to Obama?s reelection fund, the Democratic National Committee and other affiliated accounts.

Another event, CicLAvia, closed major streets in the downtown area for much of Sunday morning and early afternoon, with cars barred from entry to make way for bicycles, pedestrians and skaters.

There could be more street closures early Monday in the Beverly Hills and Westside areas as the president departs Southern California.
