Mobile computing just got more affordable for small businesses, thanks to new hardware released by Wasp Barcode Technologies. At just $ 995, the WPA1000 mobile computer is empowering companies to undertake cost-cutting initiatives such as inventory and asset tracking, without requiring a large up-front investment.

In todays business climate, companies must maximize the return on their technology investment, said Tom OShea, vice president and general manager of Wasp Barcode Technologies. We made the WPA1000 in response to an increasing interest from our customers, who wanted a lower-cost option. It carries a fantastic price point that will appeal to a large segment of small businesses: those that know they need to better manage their inventory or assets to save money, but are hesitant about spending thousands to start the process.

The Wasp WPA1000 ships with Windows Mobile operating system. Customers can buy Wasps MobileAsset asset tracking software in a bundle with the WPA 1000, starting at just $ 1,495. Or customers can buy the WPA1000 by itself. The mobile computer easily accepts third-party applications, and additional customization can be accomplished using Microsoft Visual Studio.

The unit features a compact design. Its integrated laser scanner can be used to rapidly read linear (1D) barcodes, or users can update records with the units touch-screen keypad. The bright TFT color screen has high contrast for simple viewing indoors or outdoors. Other features include:
