Are you AWARE?

The Division of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Section reminds recreational anglers to check size limits on their catches before considering them ?keepers.? A full-color reference guide to species, seasons, sizes and creel limits can be found inside the 2012 Delaware Fishing Guide. The guide is available at licensing agents statewide, along with specially marked fishing rulers to measure catches to determine if a species meets Delaware?s size limits.

?Anglers should familiarize themselves with common species in the area where they are fishing and, if in doubt, consult their Delaware Fishing Guide for size limits,? said Sgt. Gregory Rhodes of Fish and Wildlife Enforcement. ?It?s also a good rule of thumb to release any fish they cannot identify." However, Delaware also?has five invasive species?that should be killed rather than returned to the water, he noted.?Those invasive species?are the northern snakehead, flathead catfish and blue catfish, along with the mitten crab and red swamp crayfish. Pictures and descriptions of each for ID'ing them can be found on pages 28-29 of the fishing guide.

Citizens are encouraged to report fish and wildlife and boating violations to the Delaware Fish and Wildlife Enforcement Section by calling 302-739-4580.?
