HealthMinder Day - A Health and Fitness Pre-Conference

HealthMinder Day at BlogHer '12 was the first annual pre-conference event that focused solely on Health (Fitness and Special Needs) I decided to attend for three reasons:
  1. The core of the reason why I started this blog is to share my love of health and fitness
  2. I wanted to learn more about the industry (blogging wise)
  3. I wanted to meet my favorite health and wellness blogger UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL. (whoah, that sounded a little stalkerish)

I am happy to say I did just that, I learned so much from ALL of the health and wellness sessions that I attended including realizing that there is so much more I want to do with the blog, health-related.?

In the first session I was super excited to meet my blogging idols Erika from a Black Girls Guide to Weightloss (omg! I was super geeked to meet her, she probably thought I was crazy, and she probably heard me squealing on the inside but this girl is the truth and I read her blog faithfully throughout my previous weightloss) and Tina from Beautiful Athlete?who was so awesome because she is a?Caribbean?girl like myself and lives in a?predominately?Caribbean?neighborhood (like me!), and takes crap all the time from Caribbean men about losing weight (just like me, insert sad face).

Anywho here is a pic of me with the Divas!

A few things that I learned about being a health and wellness blogger (and just a blogger in general):
  • Have a thick skin, and try not to take it personally when people leave you bad comments
  • Very important to have disclaimers
  • Some of our favorite bloggers hears readers voices when making choices about food and life :)
  • Let your inner voice out, there is someone out there who will connect
  • We are all flawed, character flaws---people understand, we must regularly assess ourselves. "Have I become a jerk?"
  • Must always look for ways to evolve blog
  • Must have an editorial calendar (working on that!)
  • Be open enough to blog about mistakes...be transparent about highs and lows.?
You can read more at the live blog of the session?here!

The food that the BlogHer organizers put together for HealthMinder was fantastic and easily the best food I had all conference. LOVED!

Healthminder was a perfect way to start of the BlogHer conference, I felt less intimidated when the real conference began and I had also had the lay of the land. I knew where all of the rooms were and I had a better feel of the Hilton. I think next year I might try Pathfinder? But who knows I probably will be back again at Healthminder, it was just nice to be in a room full of people who workout just as much as you do and LOVE doing it!?

The best quote of the day is one that stuck with me to this very moment.

"Sometimes the thoughts come through you not from you" -- Terry Walters

Love!

What did you think of the advice given by the panelists?
